The Borgoand our history
The history of Castelfalfi
The story of Castelfalfi stretches back centuries. While its owners changed over the years, each ensured the village retained its original architecture, albeit with their own touch. The village first appeared on a map in 754 A.D., about 50 years after it was established by the Lombard Prince Faolfo, from which derives the name Castelfalfi (Castrum - Faolfo, meaning Faolfo's Castle). It was eventually taken over by the Caetani family, who renovated Faolfo’s hilltop castle and transformed the village into a Renaissance residence. The village was restored and revived in the last century.
Costanza de’ Medici
As evidence of the noble Florentine family's presence, some artefacts were found in Castelfalfi, including a marble insignia and a portrait of Costanza de’ Medici. The insignia is still present nowadays in our medieval castle, while the portrait is now stored in the National Gallery in London.

La Chiesa di San Floriano
The Church of San Floriano, nestled in the heart of Castelfalfi, is a small Romanesque gem that holds the history of the community, with its ancient stones whispering centuries of faith and devotion. The light filtering through the windows creates a mystical atmosphere, while the simple yet elegant architecture reflects the authentic spirit of Tuscany. Every corner of the church invites visitors to rediscover the beauty of the past, enveloping them in a timeless peace, so characteristic of Castelfalfi.
